Genealogy Research

Genealogy: Our genealogy section holds an assortment of records from Henry County, Missouri, and other nearby counties and states. These materials are for viewing purposes only and may not be checked out.

Mircofilm: The Clinton location has a variety of Henry County Newspapers, Census Records, and Land Sales between the years of 1847-2020 on microfilm available for public viewing.

Newspaper/Genealogy Requests: $10.00 per item looked up (based on 2-hour research limit) via Henry County Library microfilm. Patrons who wish for the results to be sent via standard mail will be charged an additional amount for postage unless a self-addressed stamped envelope is provided. There is no additional charge for emailing the results. The library will process requests within 2 – 4 weeks of the date received.

Ancestry® - Free access to Ancestry is provided by the library and can only be used within library facilities. This service is not available from home. Ancestry is the largest provider of family history and personal DNA testing, harnessing the information found in family trees, historical records, genetics, and health history to help people gain a new level of understanding about their lives.

HeritageQuest Online® - A comprehensive database of American genealogical sources - rich in unique primary sources, local and family histories, and finding aids. It delivers an essential collection of genealogical and historical sources - with coverage dating back to the 1700s. To remotely access Heritage Quest Online please use your Henry County Library card number.

Fold3® - Provides convenient access to military records, including the stories, photos, and personal documents of the men and women who served. The records at Fold3 help you discover and share stories about these everyday heroes, forgotten soldiers, and the families that supported them. Access is available through the Henry County Library website, you will need to create a free account.

Newspapers.com - The largest online newspaper archive consisting of 300+ million pages of historical newspapers from 11,100+ newspapers from around the United States and beyond, with a special focus on full runs and portions of runs of well-known, regional and state titles in addition to small local newspapers.
