Dial A Story
Any time of the day, any day of the year, your child can call Dial-A-Story at 660-885-4400 to listen to a recorded short story read by one of the Henry County Library staff memebers. Each story lasts approximately three minutes and can be replayed as many times as you like.
Dial-A-Story was introduced at the Henry County Library in 1977. The original machines utilized endless loop 8-track tapes and then evolved to cassette tapes to play pre-recorded stories until 2023 when the service became web-based. Stories in the Cloud Dial-A-Story was implemented with grant funding received from the Truman Lake Community Foundation. This upgraded system allows the library to play multiple stories each month and offers the ability to record unique stories read by staff members and visiting authors.
Dial-A-Story is an outreach service offered to the public by the Henry County Library. This service has provided many hours of entertainment to children who dialed in over 3000 times a year.
